Facilitator Resources

Everything you need to teach the YMT Homeownership Financial Literacy Program

This curriculum is built for housing counselors, HUD-approved agencies, nonprofits, credit unions and volunteers who teach first-time buyers and current homeowners. Your Mortgage Toolbox does not approve or certify classes. Each agency decides how the program fits its own approved work plan and standards.

What is in each kit

  • Facilitator guide (Word): agenda with timings, talking points, activities with answers, quiz answer key, evaluation form and a completion certificate template.
  • Slide deck (PowerPoint): slides with speaker notes. Slide numbers match the guide and the workbook page references.
  • Learner workbook (PDF): fillable worksheets, a quiz page and a 30/60/90-day action plan. Hand out the file or print copies for each participant.

How to run a class

  • Each module is planned as about 3 hours 15 minutes (Module 9: 2 hours 50 minutes). You decide what to trim or combine to fit your format.
  • Pre-purchase education standards commonly call for about 8 hours. Choose modules to match your agency's requirements. Modules 1 to 5 cover the buying path. Modules 6 to 9 cover owning, refinancing, building wealth and avoiding foreclosure.
  • Open the module page on a screen so learners can see the calculators. Run the calculator activities live with real numbers from the room.
  • Update sample figures to your market and current guidelines before class. Rates, fees, limits and program rules change.
  • Module 9 includes federal servicing rules and Texas timelines. Confirm current rules for your state before teaching it.
  • Learners can also work through each module online on their own time, so absent participants can catch up.
